Important Information About Year-End Giving

Mayfield Academy is a not for profit, charitable organization formed under Section 501(c)3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Donations to Mayfield Academy are tax-deductible as charitable contributions for US federal income tax purposes. There are no donation limits or restrictions on contributions to Mayfield Academy.

An Investment that Continues to Give

Mayfield Academy will have means of processing gifts electronically soon.  In the meantime, you may assist us through either, but not limited to:

Contributions are deductible in the year they are made, so be sure to make your gift by December 31 of the given year. Unless otherwise requested, all donors will receive a letter for their donations for tax filing purposes.  Thank you!

  • Mailed checks must be post-marked on or before December 31. If you use a Mayfield Academy business-reply envelope, it will help to add the appropriate postage for faster processing by the Post Office.
  • Credit Card gifts must be charged before midnight December 31. If you mail in a credit card contribution, be sure to send it well in advance of December 31. To make a credit card donation, please call 423.920.7300.
  • Gifts of stock and real estate are more complex, so be sure to initiate these early.  Please go to our Planned Giving Page (under construction) for more information.

In the future, Mayfield Academy will have an Institutional Advancement Office to raise private funding for all aspects of growth and mission work, so that our historic method of independence and excellence will be preserved. This office will process gifts and issue receipts for the Academy, which is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Whether you are interested in supporting Mayfield Academy’s general operations or in designating your gift, please review the following convenient options:

  • Give online

  • Mail your gift

    Make your personal or business check or money order payable to Mayfield Academy, and mail it to Mayfield Academy, Post Office Box 731, Athens, TN  37371.  Your envelope must be post-marked by December 31 to claim a tax deduction for that year.

  • Credit Cards

    Please call 423.920.7300. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. Your credit card gift must be charged before midnight on December 31 to claim a tax deduction for that year.

  • Pledges

    Pledges (extending from a few months to several years) can be made in writing and mailed to Mayfield Academy, Post Office Box 731, Athens, TN  37371.  Please print clearly and in full your name, mailing address and telephone number. State the full amount of the pledge, your payment schedule and the amount and date of each pledge payment. You may designate your pledge to general operations or to a specific program or project. The Advancement Office will send you a pledge reminder, if you request it.

  • Matching Gifts

    If you work for, or are retired from, a company with a matching gift program, your gift may be eligible for a match. Please obtain the proper forms from Human Resources; many forms are available online. Contributing List Under Construction.

  • Memorial Gifts

    If you wish to honor the memory of a family member or friend by making a contribution to Mayfield Academy, please write us at Mayfield Academy, Post Office Box 731, Athens, TN  37371, and include the name of the individual you are honoring. Please state the designation of the gift, if you wish. We will contact the family to let them know a donation has been made.

Other Types of Gifts

  • Donor Advised Funds

    If you are planning for a charitable tax deduction in 2016, but are undecided about making specific distributions, consider opening a Donor Advised Fund at Mayfield Academy. You can claim the deduction now and make recommendations later on the charitable distributions. The minimum gift for a Donor Advised Fund at Mayfield Academy is $25,000. Some restrictions apply.   • Securities: Stocks/Mutual Funds

    To transfer securities electronically from a brokerage account, you will need the following information:

    Planned Gifts

    In the future, Mayfield Academy will have knowledgeable professionals in the Gift and Estate Planning Office stand ready to assist you in exploring the many tax-wise options available for supporting the Academy’s mission of independence, such as bequests, charitable remainder unitrusts (CRUT), charitable remainder annuity trusts (CRAT) and gift annuities. You will need to seek the advice of a qualified estate and/or tax professional when considering any form of a planned gift. To learn more, please email us or call 423.920.7300.

  • Real Estate

    The Gift & Estate Planning Office can also assist you with a donation of a personal residence, farm, vacation home, commercial property or other real estate, which can provide you with tax savings and other benefits. Please call 423.920.7300, to speak with a professional staff member.

  • Life Insurance

    If you wish to explore this practical method of supporting , you can receive a beneficial charitable contribution deduction in the year of transfer. To discuss this option, please call 423.920.7300.

Mayfield Academy Donor Privacy Policy

Mayfield Academy values our donors’ privacy. We will not sell, trade or share a donor’s personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations. We will only share personal information once the donor has given the Academy specific permission to do so. Additionally, any credit card information a donor provides for online donation transactions is immediately encrypted and used only for that transaction.
